What is HEC IRSIP?
The International Research Support Initiative Programme (IRSIP) is HEC’s flagship mobility scheme launched to improve the quality of doctoral research in Pakistan. Unlike full PhD scholarships abroad, IRSIP does NOT send you for a complete degree. Instead, you remain enrolled in your Pakistani university but spend six months in an advanced research environment abroad – using state-of-the-art laboratories, libraries, supervision, and research culture – then return to Pakistan to complete and defend your PhD.
Over the past 59 batches, more than 4,000 Pakistani PhD scholars have benefited from IRSIP. Batch 60 continues the same model but with stricter host ranking criteria and increased emphasis on research output and collaboration.
Objectives:
- Expose Pakistani PhD students to advanced research facilities and international research culture
- Improve quality of PhD thesis through joint supervision and access to resources
- Build sustainable academic linkages between Pakistani and foreign institutions
- Promote collaborative research publications in high-impact journals
- Bring Pakistani doctoral research at par with international standards
